The latter starts with requirements defined by the client and delivers on these. The time and resource budgets vary as per the requirements.
As opposed to that, product development works within a framework of a fixed Time-To-market and fixed resources; to produce the best possible product that will meet stated objectives. The product development company (or its outsourcing partner) has to define the requirements and then deliver them using the available resources, and within the stipulated time.
This fundamental difference has implications on the nature of customer relationships that Persistent enjoys. Product life-cycles are typically longer than one-off projects. Hence, the relationship with the customer is more durable and longer lasting as the customer needs services throughout the life-cycle: newer versions, upgrades, product improvements and often maintenance and support too.
